A Complete Guide To Pico Laser Treatment in Singapore

Skin imperfections such as blemishes, acne scars, uneven skin tone, signs of ageing, regrettable tattoos, and other similar issues can have a significant impact on how we perceive ourselves.

Regardless of our age, we all aspire to have flawless, glowing, and youthful skin. If you relate to these, Pico Laser might be the answer you have long been searching for.

Pico Laser is a non-ablative laser technology commonly used to remove unwanted pigmentation, acne scars and tattoos. This novel pigment laser is also capable of skin rejuvenation and skin brightening to improve overall skin texture and skin tone for all skin types.

What is Pico Laser Treatment?

Pico Laser is a generation of laser technology that is FDA-approved and clinically proven to address common skin imperfections, including spots caused by sun damage.

It is a non-invasive laser procedure that delivers ultra-short bursts of energy in picoseconds (trillionths of a second), enabling faster and more effective treatment outcomes compared to traditional lasers.

Pico Laser is highly versatile and can address a wide range of concerns, including acne scars, wrinkles, pigmentation issues, and overall skin rejuvenation.

It offers shorter downtime, minimal discomfort, and exceptional results, making it an increasingly popular choice for individuals seeking effective skin improvement treatments.

How Does Pico Laser Work?

Pico Laser works by delivering ultra-short pulses of laser energy into the targeted area of the skin where melanin is present, such as in age spots or tattoos.

The treatment is extremely precise. These pulses are so fast that they create a photomechanical effect, shattering pigment particles, which are then eliminated naturally by the body, leaving your skin smoother and more even-toned.

It also stimulate collagen production without heating the surrounding skin, resulting in firmer, tighter skin, helping to turn back the clock and restore a more youthful appearance.

Although its pulses of energy are highly concentrated, it is still gentle to the skin and suitable for all skin types.

Why Is Pico Laser Suitable for Pigmentation?

Although melasma, sun damage, and other pigmentation are generally not harmful, they can still be a source of worry for many.

Pico Laser can effectively treat skin pigmentation as its laser energy is delivered in very short pulses. This means that it can target the pigment cells without damaging the surrounding tissue.

The laser energy is selectively absorbed by the pigment cells, breaking down the pigment and being gradually eliminated by the body. As the treated area heals, the skin will appear lighter and more evenly toned.

How About Pico Laser For Melasma?

The laser treatment is an effective solution for treating Melasma, a skin condition characterised by dark and irregular patches. Melasma can be slightly more challenging to remove than other pigments due to its deeper and stubborn nature.

However, Pico Laser Toning’s advanced technology delivers ultra-short pulses of energy that target and break down the Melasma pigments while minimising damage to the surrounding skin.

This makes the gradual fading of Melasma possible over a series of treatments.

Can Pico Laser Rejuvenate The Skin?

The treatment can provide skin rejuvenation by using MicroLens Array (MLA) that concentrates laser to produce micro-injuries under your skin, without damaging skin layers.

The injured skin triggers the body’s natural healing process and stimulates collagen and elastin in the skin.

Pico Laser can stimulate collagen to repair and remodel uneven skin texture due to acne scarring or enlarged pores. This process can help to improve skin appearance, achieving a younger-looking skin.

Can Pico Lasers Remove Acne Scars?

Pico Laser is an effective solution for stubborn acne scarring such as ice pick and rolling scars that can persist for many years and resist other treatments.

The laser treatment can deeply penetrate the skin without harming nearby tissues or leading to any adverse reactions such as redness or swelling.

The heat generated by the pulses then induces the shrinking and increased flexibility of collagen fibres, which in turn reduces inflammation and acne marks.

Can Pico Lasers Remove Tattoos?

The laser treatment was initially introduced to remove unwanted tattoos. It works by using brief bursts of laser energy to separate the ink particles in a tattoo.

It is capable of specifically targeting the ink particles without causing harm to the surrounding skin. Pico Laser is successful in treating tattoos of all colours, but it is particularly efficient when dealing with dark ink shades such as black and blue.

What Conditions Can Pico Laser Treat?

Pigmentation

Pico Laser is suitable for people with skin pigmentation. The laser targets and breaks down melanin, which is the pigment that gives skin its colour. This can help to lighten the appearance of pigmented areas on the skin.

Acne Prone

If you are struggling with acne, this treatment may be a good option for you. The laser reduces the appearance of post-acne marks and targets the sebaceous glands, which produce oil and shrink them. This can help to control and prevent acne. Pico Laser is safe for all skin types and can be used on both the face and body.

Enlarged Pores

People with enlarged pores often benefit from this laser treatment. The laser energy helps to shrink the size of the pores, giving the skin a smoother, more refined appearance. In some cases, Pico Laser can also help to improve the overall texture of the skin.

Lacklustre Skin

Pico Laser can help to improve the appearance of lacklustre skin by revitalising and renewing the skin cells. The laser light helps to stimulate collagen production, which in turn can help to improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Pico Laser

Pico Laser treatment is well-tolerated by patients as numbing cream is provided to minimise any discomfort. Most patients breeze through the treatment with little concern. However, this is subject to individual.

Pico laser has very few to no side effects. The most common side effect is lingering redness or swelling that is similar to sunburn, which usually lasts no more than 24 hours.

Skin may look flushed after treatment but will subside within 24-48 hours. You may resume normal activities post treatment, but it is advisable to:

  • Avoid prolonged sun exposure
  • Apply SPF protection daily
  • Avoid active ingredients or exfoliatives

A thorough assessment and diagnosis of your condition is required for our accredited doctors to advise on the number of laser sessions required.

For most pigmentation issues, 3-5 sessions are usually needed for complete removal.

For acne and enlarged pore issues, number sessions depends on individuals and severity of condition.

Most pigmentations will not return after removal.

However, new pigmentation can develop due to sun exposure, ageing and hormonal changes.

To prevent new pigmentation from forming, good daily skincare habits and regular maintenance treatments are recommended to ensure long-lasting results.

The laser treatment generally has no downtime. Expect some redness and swelling, as with most laser treatments. The redness gives most patients a slightly flushed appearance, but the extent of it depends on the intensity of the procedure and which areas are being treated.

You can go back to work or school right away. The redness and swelling will go away in a few hours to a day or two.

While wearing makeup and going out in the sun is technically safe, it may be best to avoid doing so. After the laser treatment, there is very little risk of skin burn, but your skin will be much happier if you don’t expose it to any more damaging UV rays.
