Do you know which part of our face shows the first sign of aging? The answer is area around the eyes. Hence, eye area issues are very common among patients over age 25 and may progress into eye bags or dark eye circles if not treated or when ageing kicks in.
There are many medical treatment for tear trough and eye bag removal, both surgically and non-surgically. However the simplest and most effective way to correct it is by dermal filler placement.
Dermal filler that we use for tear trough and eye bags correction is hyaluronic acid (HA) based dermal filler. HA is naturally occurring in our body and they are medically safe.
When HA dermal filler is injected into the sunken area under the eyes, it replaces the volume loss and gives better support to the surrounding structures. Apart from that, HA is water loving and will attract water and plump up the sunken area efficiently. It can also stimulate collagen at the same time and increase the skin elasticity and tonicity under the eyes.
Firstly a proper consultation and facial assessment are done to address the issue and determine the type of tear trough deformity. Topical numbing cream will be applied for 20 minutes. Dermal filler is then precisely placed over sunken area under the eyes to replenish the volume loss.
Immediate. The result is visible instantly and will improve further for the next 2 weeks due to water attraction of the HA dermal filler to give you a better result.
The result can last between 9-12 months in general.
Injection related side effects such as redness, swelling, needle marks are common and will subside within 24 hours. Bruising may sometimes occur and cold compress will dissolve it quicker. Some rarer side effects are for example bluish dis-colouration under the eyes, lumpiness, infection and over filling of dermal filler. You may return to normal activities immediately after the procedure with no associated downtime.
Avoid alcohol, strenuous exercise and massage of the area treated for 2-3 days after the under eye dermal filler treatment.
Avoid alcohol and exercise for 6 to 12 hours after the treatments. This is to reduce the risk of swelling or bruising. Avoid deep massage to the treated under eye area so that the fillers do not move.
Dark eye circles or ‘Panda eyes’ are very common among Singaporeans and is one of the top reason for an aesthetic clinic visit to remove those stubborn and hyper pigmented lesions around the eyes.
Do you know that the dark colour you see from dark eye circles is due to the blood vessels underneath the skin? When we age our skin becomes thinner, duller and less elastic resulting more visible dark tissue and blood vessels underneath the eyes. Another method of formation of dark eye circles is actually due to the shadows being cast by puffy eyelid (eye bags / tear trough) or sunken orbit due to ag-ing.
